Epho Pty Ltd Press Release
(Sydney, Mon. 18th Jan. 2016)
Gidginbung Solar Farm has been shortlisted by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) as part of the $100m large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) competitive round.
The 15MWdc Gidginbung Solar Farm was successfully shortlisted by ARENA to submit a Full Application as part of an important initiative to drive the increase of large-scale solar PV by 200 MW across Australia.
The Gidginbung Solar Farm is located just outside Temora in Central Western NSW and this location was chosen because of its very high solar resource as well as the availability of land in close proximity to Essential Energy’s electrical distribution network.
The Gidginbung Solar Farm will be developed by Epho Pty Ltd in close collaboration with its consortium partners, regionally based Hydro Power (Central Western NSW) and internationally based IB Vogt (Germany) and Saferay (Germany). The consortium is strong and backed by extensive experience in the delivery of large-scale solar PV farms around the world.
Oliver Hartley, Managing Director of Epho describes the shortlisting as, “Exciting and deserving. The effort by the whole team throughout the Expression of Interest stage was outstanding. It demonstrated Epho’s commitment to Central Western NSW, where we have been providing high-quality commercial solar power solutions to businesses across the region. We are fortunate to be part of a great group of development companies with a fantastic opportunity to engage with the wonderful local community of Temora. We are fully committed to making this project a success, by demonstrating how large-scale solar PV can integrate smoothly within a local community”.
Tony Flanery, Managing Director of Hydro Power, stated, “The consortium partners combine unique skills in a perfect way. Hydro Power has been operating hydro power plants in Central NSW for decades and is excited to now also bring large-scale solar PV to the area together with two highly successful global solar developers and one of Australia’s most experienced commercial solar companies.”
The Gidginbung Solar Farm website will be launched shortly to keep the community up to date with the progress of the development and proposed engagement activities.

About Hydro Power
Hydro Power Pty Limited was incorporated in 1989 and constructed an 18 megawatt generator on Wyangala Dam, near Cowra in central west New South Wales. The company began operation in April of 1991 and it has operated successfully since. Along with upgrades to the original station the total output is now 24 megawatts. Hydro Power continues to remain a keen investor in the renewable energy market.
Saferay was founded in 2010 by a highly experienced team. The company’s mission is to create a new kind of independent power producer that solely focuses on solar PV. The team has completed more than 700 MW of utility-scale solar plants on five continents. In 2013 it connected one of the world’s first large scale fully merchant solar plants in Chile. This is in line with its strategic vision that solar PV will become one of the most cost efficient ways of producing electricity and can compete with any other type of power generation without subsidies. Besides the Americas and Europe the company is currently focusing on building and operating PV power plants in Japan and South East Asia.
